The new curriculum standards advocate choosing effective evaluation strategies according to the representations of the different modules of the course. In daily teaching, teachers still remains a lot of confusion about how to assess students effectively. As a result, it’s important to study the way how to improve the evaluation of students. As a qualitative evaluation method, the SOLO taxonomy combines the advantages of structuralism theory of Bruner’s and cognitive development theory of Piaget, which has good guidance for student evaluation.Multi-representation teaching mode based on the SOLO taxonomy theory requires teachers to guide students to recognize and understand the chemical reaction from the perspective of macro, micro, symbol characterizations and establish the intrinsic link between the four. Teachers try their best helping students understand the knowledge by referencing to the experimental facts and using a variety of models, charts and modern information technology to improve teaching quality and efficiency. As a way to reflect the characteristics of chemistry, quadruple characterization is important in chemistry teaching applications. In this paper, we design the multi-representation teaching mode combined the SOLO taxonomy on the basic of the textbook analysis, learning situation analysis and education goals analysis about the chemical reaction. On the one hand, the SOLO taxonomy can judge the students’ level of thinking objectively. On the other hand, using the proper multi-representation can break students’learning disabilities. Organic combination of both promotes the study of teaching the theoretical knowledge of chemistry. It is helpful for students to understand the chemical knowledge deeply, develop their exploring ability and experiment scientific literacy, and achieve the education purpose about overall development of students.
