Vocabulary is the minimal unit of meaning in a language. The conceptual and thinking activities of human beings are all initiated from it. Especially in the current education environment and with the continual development of new curriculum reform and the reform of college entrance examination, the scope of vocabulary test in college entrance examination has become more extensive, which indicates that the status of the vocabulary in English teaching will also be gradually improved and it will receive increasing attention from educators and learners. This requires students to continuously strengthen their vocabulary foundation and extend their vocabulary accumulation. After experimental research and software testing, the author found that: reading vocabulary is not equal to listening vocabulary and students’ accumulation of reading vocabulary is also different from that of listening vocabulary; most students’ reading vocabulary is more than listening vocabulary; their ability of reading comprehension is also stronger than listening comprehension. This also reflects that current teaching method of English vocabulary is simple; usually the teachers just teach the meaning of vocabulary according to the syllabus and don’t pay much attention to the pronunciation; the students can only memorize the meanings by rote memory and visual memory. Therefore, many learners only know the meaning and don’t know the origin, which is commonly known as "dumb English." This brings students difficulties in understanding the article and grasping the precise meaning of words in specific context during the listening training and test. Considering this situation, the practice of using repetitive audio stimulation to form graphical memory effect; enhancing students’ cognition of sentences and words, namely the so-called "language sense", on the basis of the listening input methods; converting the students’ existing reading vocabulary into listening vocabulary to help them strengthen their listening skills, increase their accumulation of comprehensive vocabulary, and improve their comprehensive English ability should be the focus of English listening teaching in high school at the current stage. This thesis aims to study and explore the methods of enlarging senior high schools’ students’ listening vocabulary, transform the reading vocabularies which have already been accumulated into the listening vocabularies by listening input, expand the listening vocabulary and average up the listening standard in the process of language teaching development with rapid changes. Moreover, this thesis intends to explore how to make students study more efficiently in practice, how to make them listen and read better, as well as memorize and master effectively.
