The family is children’s first class. Parents are the first teachers of their children. Family education concerns the development of children’s whole life. Based on family background and academic achievement, a lot of research had done both at home and abroad, and found that there were certain correlation between them.In this article, I explore the relationship between junior high school students’math performance and family background based on CFPS 2010 data. Family background factors including the degree of parental education, family income, parents’concern for their children’s education and so on, it contains two types of factors, including the hard environment and soft environment in the family background. First through contingency table analysis to explore each factor’s effect on the junior high school students mathematics study results from the viewpoints of nationwide, urban and rural.Across the country, the degree of parental education are significantly positively related to children’s math performance. The higher the degree of parental education, the better their children’s math performance. There was no significant correlation between family income and children’s math performance. Parents’concern for their children’s education is significantly positively related to children’s math performance. In the city, the degree of parental education are significantly positively related to children’s math performance, also there were no significant correlation between family income and children’s math performance. Parents’ concern for their children’s education is significantly positively related to children’s math performance. In the countryside, the degree of father’s education is significantly positively related to children’s math performance, while the degree of mother’s education is not. There was no significant correlation between family income and children’s math performance. Parents’ concern for their children’s education is positively related to children’s math performance. On the foundation of research above, considering all the factors establish multinomial logistic regression model, find that, the degree of mother’s education and the degree of parents’ concern for their children’s education are significantly related to their children’s math performance. From the above can be concluded that junior high school students’ math performance are significantly correlated with family background. Based on my research then putting forward these suggestions:First, parents must set up the correct education views:It’s parents’ duty to care children’s education, parents are children’s first and lifelong teachers.Second, give priority to ensuring children’s in-class learning resources. In my research, there was no significant correlation between family income and children’s math performance. But the fact is that, When children have rich in-class learning resources, the performance is better relatively.Third, Parents should actively participate in and care more about children’s study, strengthen emotional investment. They should be more concerned about their children’s education, have a high degree of educational expectation, strengthen communication with children. Help children overcome obstacles in learning, give encouragement and guidance in time when children are unable to have a good learning performance.Last but not the least, schools should pay more attentions to the students who have disadvantaged family background, seeking for helps in many ways to improve the performance of students in school.
