| Vocabulary ability is the core of the development of language ability for foreign language learners. With the further development of new course reformation around our nation, the new criterion of English course in senior high school makes greater demands on students’ learning ability, especially in vocabulary. Many scholars at home and abroad have done a great deal of research on how to apply schema theory to high school English vocabulary teaching. But it’s a pity that very few people focus on the application of schema theory to English vocabulary teaching. Therefore, this article will study the current situation of English vocabulary teaching in senior high school to explain how to apply the schema theory to English vocabulary teaching effectively.Combined with the practical teaching situation, this paper reviewed previous research based on schema theory results. First, it comes up with the question to be discussed. In addition, through studying the basic definition and theory of schema and related research about vocabulary, it found out the inner relationship between vocabulary teaching and schema theory. The paper adopted the practical research methods. One method is to conduct a questionnaire survey among teachers and students aiming at showing the present situation of vocabulary teaching and the method of vocabulary learning in senior high school. The other method is to do a teaching experiment to prove whether it is practically helpful to encourage learners to manipulate the meanings of words well. Through the analysis and discussion of investigation data and exp eriment data, it comes up with some effective vocabulary teaching methods based on schema theory. Finally the main research put forward some implications on English teaching in senior high school and analyzed the limits and prospect of the research. |
