In this paper, the author uses mathematics test and questionnaire to investigate 344 students in ninth-grade class in ethnic minority areas, and evaluates their mathematical errors in it. Firstly, according to the type of students mathematical error, it can be classified six categories, that is, errors in interpreting mathematical definition, errors in examining the topic, errors in calculating, errors in logical thinking, errors in methods, and errors in problem-solving habit. Secondly, encode all the error types appearing in the test and analysis the statistical data, afterwards, we conclude that the main types include errors in calculating, examining the topic and problem-solving habit, the subordinate types are errors in interpreting mathematical definition, logical thinking and methods. By comparing the data of students in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu area, we get that students in these areas have higher consistency in math errors, less diversity, but there is a huge gap between students in Chinese class and bilingual class in math errors, and students’ language competence plays an important role in it. Based on the questionnaire survey and error analysis in students’ mathematics performance, mathematical errors in national regions can be summarized as five aspects:lacking of mathematics knowledge skills, disabled to fully grasp the question in test, deficiency of mathematical language competences, bad problem- solving habit and lacking of the ability to solve practical problems. The causes of students’mathematical errors are often not isolated, but the composite effects of several aspects. In order to solve these questions, in this paper the author put forward a series of suggestions, which include improving teaching process by reflecting on students’ errors, strengthening students’language competences, cultivating students’ problem-solving habit, stressing the cultivation of students’ mathematical reading and writing competence, attaching great importance to the error resources collection and utilization. All these efforts will benefit teachers’ self-improvement in mathematics teaching in national regions.
