A Study On The Current Situation Of Minority Folkways In Urban Campus

The Hui Nationality is one of the largest ethnic minorities in China. The living state of "big scattered and small concentration" for long, makes the Hui people form a route, which called "cooperation in independence, unity in diversity", to adapt to and keep their own folk tradition, with a long term of interactions to other ethnics. Nowadays, the traditional Hui community is facing dual impact of urbanization and modernization, as a result, the scatter in living and weakness in religion make new challenges of how to keep their own folk customs today.As the only provincial Hui autonomous region, Ningxia has a strong custom atmosphere of Hui Nationality, which provides a good outer condition for the maintaining and inheriting of their culture. The local college students of Hui Nationality are the new generations, whose fate is showed by their folk lives. When they come to Minzu University of China, the change of cultural field brings them a choice game of keeping the old and adapt to the new. In this special community, they set the original burdened folk lives into their campus lives., which is both the process of adjustments in new cultural field, and that of interactions and bilateral constructions between individuals, groups and campus.This paper includes introduction, body part and conclusion. The body part is divided into four chapters.Introduction describes the significance of the topic, relevant research trends, and explains the research methods.The first chapter focus on modern Hui community, describes the changes between traditional community and the modern one. And analyze the main ways of ethical cultural inherent.MUC, as a cultural field, will be researched in chapter Two. Its ethical features and multicultural space will be analyzed, which, makes MUC not only a geographical existence, but a multicultural field as well.Chapter Three is the most important. First, the paper will give a brief introduction of Hui students from Ningxia. Second, according to the investigations, some descriptions will be given from three aspects:diet, dress and Corban Festival in campus. We will try to find the reasons of changing with different fields by comparison.Chapter Four mainly talks about the construction process of Hui students’ folk lives in campus. As the fields change, the folk custom will sure to adjust in reaction. Thus, their folk lives in campus, on one hand, is a good behavior of balance based on interaction and construction, on the other hand, is the cultural function of university.The conclusion is a thought of the relationship between folk custom in tradition and in modernization. The process of modernization is the process of cultural self-consciousness. The Hui students are the pioneers of it. Their re-reading and re-practice of folk culture weaken the intense relationship between tradition and modern, and brings a new route of folk culture inheritance.
