Modern societies are rapidly aging. This is not the case only in developed countries such as America, England, Germany, France, and Japan, but also in some developing countries like China and Korea, which are already in the process of becoming elderly societies. The focus of this research is on the senior citizens aged 60 years and above of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, who make up 10.38% of the prefecture's total population. The welfare and education of the elderly people is an issue not only for the family, but also for the society in terms of important policy-making. This is especially so in modern countries where people pursue happiness, and much investment and research are done to improve the life quality and happiness index of the elderly people.Such efforts have resulted in lifelong education that caters to the elderly, and will play an important role in solving the problems in the elderly society. The subjects in this thesis are selected from among the elderly folks in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture from the perspective of lifelong education. Before the field survey, I did literature research of studies done among the elderly people in America, Germany, Japan, Korea, etc., with respect to the significance and necessity of lifelong education for the elderly. In order to do this research on the education of elderly city dwellers in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, I selected four places in Yanji and two places in Longjing for the preliminary research. After that, a survey was conducted among the students. I utilized the SPSS WIN program to obtain the various frequency, percentage, standard deviation, and divergence analysis statistics. Based on the result of my analysis, I then presented my proposal for animproved plan and alternative policy of the current education. The proposed plan and alternative policy in this thesis is only a starting point on this topic regarding the elderly Chosun city dwellers in Yanbian. It certainly requires further study and development with the support of the local government, the community of the elderly, universities, research institutes on the elderly, and various other places.
