Review Of The Chinese National Games (1910 ~ 2001)

China was forced to open her door with the entry of imperialistic nations after the First Opium War in 1840. China's territory was dissevered and feudal economics, which had lasted for thousands of years, began to break off and changed into a semi-colony and semi-feudal society. Western culture flooded into China and challenged Chinese traditional culture while western countries invaded China. Western modern sports also went to China and collided and merged with Chinese thousands-years traditional sports, developing abreast and merging into China's modern sports. Decades of years later, Chinese Communist Party won the People's Liberation War and set up the People's Republic of China in 1949.Then, while China becoming a socialism country, sports changed greatly with a different property and appearance.There has been a definitely similar sport game——National Games of China eventhough China has such two different history stage. The fundamental essence of the game, a big-scale national athletics game, has not changed though its operation direction, organization, purpose and methods have changed a lot. The National Games of China has lasted from the beginning of twenty century up to date.This article focuses on the National Games of China——a sports games beginningin modern China and lasting up to date. The article analyzes general situation, character and so on of national games of China both before the Liberation War and after it. The article also discovers connections and searches the strong vitality between the games and tries to make some proposes to the games in the future to make people understand comprehensively the games and to contribute some ideas and reference to the modernization of Chinese physical sports.
