According to the new theory of the Chinese language teaching put forward by the second period teaching reform, aiming at the problems in the teaching of reading, this thesis focuses on the teaching idea that the students read the whole passage.Reading the whole passage gives readers the advantage of being able to get the general idea of the whole passage, regard the passage as life unity, identify the main topic and the pattern of the passage; in the reading process, the teacher concentrates on students' reading, values students' emotional activity and active participation, helps students feel more about the passage and the author. Through this process, the teacher can promote the students' Chinese learning accomplishment.The idea that the students read the whole passage is not a new one. Because of the characteristics of the Chinese language, such as entirety and understanding the meaning of words based on the context, the traditional way of reading in our country emphasizes the entirety of the passage and the feeling of the readers. In modern times, while doing reading teaching both abroad and at home, lots of educators have discussed the theory and put it into practice. Thus, the idea represents the soul of traditional reading teaching and bases on the theory and practice of reading teaching. Meanwhile, the idea has a solid theory foundation, which focuses on grasping the general idea of the passage and bases on the theory of enriching the passage; it suggests reading the passage as follows - "passage - paragraph - passage", which . follows the psychology of reading; it values the feeling of the readers and bases on the theory of constructivism.The idea focuses on grasping the general idea of the passage, contributes to the cultivation of entirety; stresses students' study, stimulates students' study passion; encourages individual reading, helps to cultivate creative spirit and ability and form free and independent personality; values experience and feeling, helps to vivify the knowledge and ability, promotes students' feeling, helps students open their minds, enrich their emotion, purify their hearts, form their virtues, upgrade their ambition, advance their taste of beauty, cultivate their literary spirit, and fully improve their accomplishment in Chinese.The idea adapts to all kinds of reading passages, however, different reading passages require different teaching emphases. Such passages as narration and explanation focus on the whole passage reading, but for literary ones demand not only the whole passage reading but also the readers' feeling about the passage.
