This paper presents a definition, the foundation, and implementation of holistic reading. Holistic reading is a method of teaching and learning that intrigue the students'emotional experience and special"spirituality". It is a process developed from holistic education theory, involves student, educator and text, by means of transmission, communication and transformation, ultimately lead students well rounded. Through research and interviews, this paper analysis the phenomenon and causes of lacking the capacity of integrally reading, demonstrate abundant theoretical foundation for holistic reading,such as"Gestalt""constructivism"and"Reform on new curriculum". In order to apply holistic reading to teaching and learning practice, this paper advocates several approaches to achieve holistic reading ability with students: pre-reading---primarily general acknowledge about the text---partial analysis---conclusion on the whole text.Throughout this experience, students can wholly grasp the text structure and fully comprehend its spirit. To better exert the function of holistic reading and enhance the overall Chinese learning accomplishment capacity of students, this paper indicates implementary methods in length for each detail.
