Objective:The main purpose of this paper is to discuss the effect of Radix Astragali on enhancing movement ability and anti-fatigue through observing the influence of Radix Astragali on the skeletal muscle carbohydrate metabolism enzyme, skeletal muscle glycogen content, LD content and the serum levels of related hormones in swimming rats.Method:80 male Wistar mice were randomly divided into two groups after swimming training : water taking group(A group) and Radix Astragali taking group(B group). Then every group were randomly divided into five states: the resting state, the immediate ends of 1 hour exercise state, the immediate ends of exhaustive exercise state, 1 hour ends of exhaustive exercise state and 12 hours ends of exhaustive exercise state. B group affuses stomach four days with the certain Radix Astragali at 8:00am; A group affuses stomach four days with the same volume water at 8:00am. After two hours of last affusion, mice take swimming exercise in addition to the resting state, then the activity of skeletal muscle carbohydrate metabolism enzyme, the content of skeletal muscle glycogen and LD , Insulin and Glucagon in serum were measured at the resting state, the immediate ends of 1 hour exercise state, the immediate ends of exhaustive exercise state, 1 hour ends of exhaustive exercise state and 12 hours ends of exhaustive exercise state. All of the data were processed by software of spss 10.0 package with T-check for the comparison between groups and P<0.05 as the standard of markedess.Result:Under the state of resting, the skeletal muscle glycogen content of B group is higher than A group (P<0.05); the skeletal muscle Na~+ - K~+ - ATPase activity of B group is much lower than A group (P<0.01); the skeletal muscle SDH activity of B group are higher than A group (P<0.05); Under the immediate ends of 1 hour exercise state, mice serum Glucagon content of B group is higher than A group (P<0.05); mice skeletal muscle glycogen content of B group is much higher than A group (P<0.01); the keletal muscle Na~+ - K~+ - ATPase activity of B group is much lower than A group (P<0.01); Under the immediate ends of exhaustive exercise state, big mice serum Insulin content of B group is much higher than A group (P<0.01); big mice skeletal muscle glycogen content of B group are much higher than A group ( P<0.01 ) ; the keletal muscle Na~+ - K~+ - ATPase activity of B group is much lower than A group (P<0.01); Under 1 hour ends of exhaustive exercise state, the skeletal muscle glycogen content of B group is much higher than A group (P<0.01) .Conclusions:Radix Astragali can enhance the reserve of skeletal muscle glycogen through promoting releasing of Insulin and Glucagon in serum; and it can enhance the energy supply through inhibiting the antivity of Na~+ - K~+ - ATPase and increasing the activity of SDH, MDH; moreover, Radix Astragali dose not have the remarkable effect on the activity of LDH and the content of LD in this experiment, this may be relative to the small intensity movement of mice.
