Because of the broadly scattered communities of Hui people across China, the relationship between Hui people and Han people who live together may be one of the main representations of the ethnic relationships among the scattered communities. It directly affects the stability of an area and its neighborhood whether Hui people keep a harmonious relationship with Han people or not. So it is essential for us to strengthen the study of the mutual relationship between Hui people and Han people. It benefits not only the social stability, but also the development of the western and central, the maintaining of sustainable economic development and the construction of well-off society. The population of Hui people in Henan Province ranks third in China, where the population of Hui people occupies the majority of the local minority ethnic groups. Due to the decentralization of the inhabitation of Hui People, Han people is the main object that Hui people communicates outside Hui society. Therefore, the frequent mutual communications between these two peoples may easily lead to various types of ethnic problems which might have a large influence over social stability. Considering the actual situation in related to scattered communities and previous researches carried out by scholars, I chose Changhe Hui community in Luoyang city, one of the five urban ethnic areas in CentralChina, as my investigation spot. It is one of the origins where Chinese Hui firstly come into being. The Hui people inhabited in this area have lived together with Han people for a long time, so it can reflect the current situation of ethnic relationship, particularly the ethnic relationship in the course urbanization and modernization of China, in scattered communities to some extent to carry out investigation there. Thus it is obviously meaningful for us to reflect the relationship between Hui and Han People who live together in scattered communities of Central China through the relevant study carried out in Henan, one of the provinces in Central China. We can learn the basic status of the relationship between Hui and Han who live together in scattered communities via that in this area and go further to analyze the relevant characteristics. The essay has combined ethnological and sociological theories with historical documents to retrospect the history of ethic relationship in Changhe Hui community. Meanwhile, four representative variables, which should vary accordingly with the ethnic relationships in the course of urbanization, are selected as key indicators to assess local ethnic relationship, that is, the changes of the inhabitation patterns, the changes of the intermarriage, the mutual communication, and the religious factors. The changes of the indicators are obtained by ways of interviews and questionnaire statistics. On the basis of the investigation, a conclusion isdrawn that the ethnic relationships in the scattered communities generally represent the new type of socialistic ethnic relationship, i.e., a relationship of equality, unity, mutual assistance and cooperation among all of China's ethnic groups, and that the harmonious and equal relationship is dominant. Then the essay sums up the main types and characteristics of problems which influence the ethnic unity and analyze the causes. At last, the essay gives the suggestions in related to setting up the good running mechanism of harmonious relationships among scattered communities.
