The self-controlling ability in mathematics study refers to that of students' self-motivation for high efficiency and success, and in particular, it means their ability during the entire learning process to have active attitude toward planning, testing, modulating and managing of their study activities, so that they can successfully achieve their study goals. Consequently, the self-controlling ability can be divided into three aspects: planning of their own learning activities in mathematics; scheduled testing and obtaining feedback of the process and the progress; modulating, adjusting and managing their mathematics study activities accordingly. Having the self-controlling ability is a mature sign of the person's intelligence development. It is essential to solve problems individually, communicate mutually and adapt to society. It is also assurance of self-development, self-realization and self-improvement.This essay first carries out a survey on the middle school students' present situation about their self-controlling ability in mathematics and finds out the result that middle school students' self-controlling ability in mathematics is very low. Then it gets into related research on theory and experiments. It also expounds the basic principles, teaching strategies and teaching measures of fostering middle school students' self-controlling ability in mathematics. At the same time, it also engages in some practical experiments of training of self-controlling abilities. Analyzing the outcomes of the experiments, we can draw the following conclusions: (1)The training of the self-controlling abilities does help to improve student's mathematics learning ability; (2)The teaching strategies adopted in the teaching practice, for example psychological preparation strategies, method-guiding strategies and recognize-controlling strategies can lead to better effects in teaching; (3) Strengthening the training on the self-controlling ability in mathematics during the entire mathematics learning process and the entire mathematics problem-solving process is an effective measure to foster the self-controlling ability.
