The fundamental quality of bilingual teachers in maths teaching of primary schools are part of teacher's qualities, which has no unified definition and recognition yet. Teacher's qualities in primary school will directly influence the qualities of the citizens in 21st century. This thesis mainly discusses what fundamental qualities should bilingual teachers in maths teaching possess in new times through analyzing the professional characteristics of both English and maths together with the speciality of bilingual teaching of maths in primary schools; thus giving constructive suggestions on how to improve bilingual teacher's fundamental qualities.This thesis tries to achieve two goals: one is to discuss the what fundamental qualities bilingual teachers should have in maths teaching of primary school so as to meet the the demands of bilingual maths teaching in primary schools made by the State Education Committee. The other is to give the constructive suggestions to improve bilingual teachers'professional development by investigating the present qualities of bilingual teachers in maths teaching in Yantai city.This thesis consists of four chapters:Chapter One is about the concept differentiation and analysis. It introduces the background in the research on the fundamental qualities of bilingual maths teachers in primary school , and puts out the significance of improving the fundamental qualities of bilingual maths teachers by analyzing the demands of education development and the need of high-qualified bilingual teachers in bilingual education. What's more, it tries to make it clear the necessity of researches on bilingual maths teachers'fundamental qualities based on the the comparison between bilingual teachers at home and abroad.Chapter two focuses on the analysis of the required fundamental qualities for the bilingual maths teachers in primary school. It analyzes the concepts such as bilingual education, bilingual teaching as well as bilingual maths teaching in primary school ; it further explains the required fundamental qualities like necessary professional psychological quality, rational knowledge structure, advanced teaching philosophy and integrated ability.Chapter Three focuses on the investigation and evaluation on the present situation fundamental qualities for bilingual maths teachers in primary schools in Yantai city, Shandong Province.Chapter Four provides the conclusion and suggestions on how to improve teachers'qualities.
