As an important concept of contemporary cognitive psychology, metacognition has been elaborated on thoroughly and systematically since the 1950's . Being a theory of great vitality, it has got great attention and has been accepted by more and more people. The research home and abroad shows that this theory can be instructive to education at the present time. This paper first gives a brief introduction to the metacognitive theory. Then it combines with the discussion about physics teaching in vocational school. Basing on the metacognitive theory, we attempt to measure and evaluate students' metacognitive ability so as to research how to cultivate their metacognitive ability in physics in vocational school.According to this circumstance and basing on the foundation education curriculum reformation, we consult the methods of the cultivation and put forward the strategy of the cultivation of students' metacognitive ability. And then we adopt the strategy in physics classroom teaching. The results of this study indicate that taking the metacognitive traning for students in physics classroom teaching can help them formulate plan and have a definite study goal according to their study ability and task. Moreover, the metacognitive training can promote the students to grasp the basic knowledge and perfect cognitive structure. Furthermore, it can raise students' ability to solve problems in physics and improve their transferable ability when students meet with new problems. At last, through the cultivation of students' metacognitive ability, they will learn how to think, how to select effective study strategy, meanwhile, it can enhance students' independent study ability.
