Excellent Men's Table Tennis Players Technical And Tactical Characteristics

The tendency of nowadays table tennis game is fiercer,with more spin and faster speed, which could be seen more clearly in men's competition.In addition,the players of Asia and Europe learn from each other and improve their skills in a variety of events. With the growth of European players,like Boll and Maze,and Korean players,Chinese team faces much more threat than ever before.Although ITTF hopes increase the game's view through the use of big ball,the 11 point system has encouraged players to adopt fiercer style in matches.Chinese team is attaching more importance to the backhand training.However,how to combine backhand and pivot technique and combine the speed,spin,and power is an important task for the researchers.Using video-observation,three-phase analysis and phase-evaluation method,the author deeply analyzed the technical and tactical features of 5 world elite table tennis players.In addition,their backhand technical characteristics were analyzed as well.It was concluded that:1.The advantage of Ma Lin and RYU Seung Min is in theirinitial attach in first four balls. However,Wang Hao,Wang Liqin and Kreanga expresses a relative balance in all phases.2.In terms of backhand side,all elite players use pivot to win a score much more frequently than using backhand in all phases.This tendency is more clear in rally than in other phases.It is showed that stressing pivot is still the tendency of nowadays game.3.As a pen-hold player,Wang Hao's scoring rate of backhand and pivot reaches a high level,showing that pen-hold players' backhand skill could reach a level as high as that of shake-hold players,provided they receive proper training.4.Enlarging the forehand using range is stressed in nowadays table tennis game. Therefore,players have to strengthen their footwork and endurance to adapt well to it.
