In Beijing Uyghur Students In Marriage And Family Concept Study

Family is the most fundamental social organization of human society it is of great important to both society and individuals. On one hand, family plays great role on such field as fertility, social control and cultural inheritance, on the other hand, family provides people with living ensure and places for mental communication. However, we face many serious problems of family, such as the increase of cohabit, premarital pregnancy, single-parent family, divorce rate, family violence and suicide.The Uyghur have formed unique culture and living style, and value during the long history of development. As new generation, what is the concept and attitude about marriage and family of the Uyghur undergraduates? What is the inheritance and what is the change? This is the question of the paper. The investigation aims at Uyghur undergraduates who study in universities of Beijing. Questionnaire and visit are two means of investigation.This paper has four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the paper, including the significance of the subject, academic history, methods and the hypothesis of this research.The second chapter is the investigation about concept of marriage, including concept about choosing a right spouse and concept of sex.The third chapter is family concept, including concept about fertility, women's social status and family relations.The last chapter is the conclusion, including the concept change of marriage and family, the reason of change and the characteristics of these changes.The research shows that the Uyghur college students' concept about marriage and family has obviously changed on four aspects. The first, amativeness becomes the primary way to marriage. The second, the women's role begin to incline from family to career. The third, the main purpose of fertility has changed from quantity to quality. The fourth, the heritage concept was denied widely, such as marriage in teenage and marriage with relatives. There are closed relations between change of concept and change of society, living condition and education condition.At the same time, the Uyghur undergraduates preserve some traditional virtues, such as attaching great importance to the education for girl, close relations between the members of family, taking more care of family.In conclusion, the Uyghur undergraduates' change of concept about marriage and family is the result of social change and cultural change. And during this course, the Uyghur youth preserve their excellent parts of their heritage culture. Both change and heritage make the Uyghur family happiness. It is worth of study for other minority groups.
