The Study Of Family Change Between Mainland And Taiwan

As the basic unit of individual life, the family is also the tie conneting individuals and the society. The change of social structure will affect the family change, while the change also can cause every aspect of social changes. Since the industrialization, the family structure has experienced the changes from extended to nuclear family, foming the modern family pattern. However, with the emergence of new changes, which differ from the modern family, the relationship between the individual and family also appears a new transformation. Grasping the present situation and development trend of family change is of great social significance.This paper is a preliminary study of family change between Mainland and Taiwan. The content is divided into three parts, including introduction to the present situation of family change, the comparison of female college students’ concept of marriage and family as well as the analysis of its influencing factors between Mainland and Taiwan. Firstly, grasp the current situation in family change based on the statistical data. Secondly, compare the female college students’ concept of marriage and family between Mainland and Taiwan via a questionnaire survey. Thirdly, analyze the influencing factors of personal concept in marriage and family, emphasizing the distinction the role between individual factors and social structure factors in the process of concept formation.The study shows that, new characteristics beyond modern family pattern have turned up in both Mainland and Taiwan, reflecting in the marriage patterns, fertility behavior and family size. The comparison of concept of marriage and family also shows different from the value of modern family pattern. Furthermore, the study of influencing factors of concept in marriage and family finds that, people in Mainland are still more deeply affected by social structural factors, while ones in Taiwan are more clearly reflect the role of individual factors.On the basis of previous results, prospect the development trend of family change both in Mainland and Taiwan. At the same time, discuss whether a new transformation has appears in the relation between individual and family.The comparison of concept in marriage and family shows that, the family changes will still develop in the direction to depart from the modern family mode. To be specific, the family will manifest its new characteristic clearly such as the unstable marriage patterns, the tendency of barren and diversification of family forms. With the trend of family change, the individualization is highlighted. The study of influencing factors shows that relative to the Mainland, people in Taiwan are less restricted by the social structure. In general, whether in present situation of family change, or in the concept of marriage and family, Taiwan shows more obvious tendency of individualization.
