The education and the learning will play the key role in the 21st century, and the nature of the idea about the talent cultivation has been changed as the development of economic globalization and pluralistic development. Faced with the challenge of knowledge-based economy and development of the information age, the cultivation of the talent with comprehensive quality, enterprising awareness and intercultural communicative competence for the new century has been extremely important. As a very important part of the foreign language education and the quality-oriented education, the foreign language education in senior high school has attached importance to the cultivation of students'positive attitude and the formation of students'learning strategies and learning abilities, made a clear objective of English teaching that foster the communicative competence with language, and laid stress on the cultivation of language comprehensive application ability. Culture awareness is a part of language comprehensive application ability, including Cultural knowledge, Cultural comprehension,Intercultural communicative awareness and Intercultural communicative competence. That cultivating students'fine cultural awareness is beneficial to improve their humanistic quality, broaden their international view and world consciousness, strengthen their patriotism spirit and sense of national mission, perfect their sentiments, attitude and values, and promote students'all-round development.The paper has inquired and analyzed the cultural awareness, and reviewed the history of development on cultural awareness and cultural teaching. By consulting the concerned literature and integrating the involved research, the paper has analyzed and discussed the current condition of cultural awareness cultivation in Senior English teaching from three perspectives: students, teachers and teaching materials,especially had an empirical investigation on students intercultural communication awareness and intercultural communication competence. What the paper has discovered are the lacking of students cultural awareness, with cultural knowledge, cultural comprehension, cultural communication awareness and cultural communication competence remain to be improved; the weakness of teachers ability and sense of students cultural awareness; and the deficiency of teaching materials in cultural awareness content and compilation. In view of the problems and its causes existing in the cultural awareness cultivation of Senior English teaching, three count measures have been proposed: establishing the favorable teaching concept, adopt a correct attitude and conduction towards the relevance between cultural awareness cultivation and language teaching; reinforcing the cultural knowledge teaching and taking highly of the cultivation of students cultural comprehension; perfecting the students intercultural communication awareness, and improving the their intercultural communication competence.
