Cross-cultural awareness plays a very important role in English education,and it can provide a significant benefit.First of all,it can improve education quality.At present,English has a very prominent position and it is a major discipline in school.Therefore,English education has gradually become an important task of.Secondly,teachers should improve students’ interest and motivation.Students always curious about different culture and lifestyle,which can stimulate students’ interest.Thirdly,Cross-clutural awareness can improve students’ communication ability.English education would improve the overall quality through teaching activities,and comprehensive quality can respond to the needs of social development.Due to the restriction of exam-oriented education,the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness has not meant paid enough attention to language teaching.This paper conducted a questionnaire and interviews survey in the Experimental high school at Inner Mongolia University for nationalities,and analyzed to answer the following two research questions:1)What is the current situation of senior high school students’ cross-cultural awareness?2)What are the factors that affect the current situation of high school students’ cross-cultural awareness?In order to respond to the above questions,the author chose Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities Experimental High School to investigate.Built on the requirements of the new curriculum and the teaching materials,the questionnaire and interviews are combined to explore the current situation of cross-cultural awareness in high school.The author randomly selected 120 students to finish the questionaire,and five students and three teachers were interviewed to supplement the questionnaire.Throughthe collection and analysis of questionnaires and interview results,which shows that students’ cross-cultural awareness is closely linked with teacher,student and school.The results show the current situation of cross-cultural awareness as follows: On the one hand,students interest in English culture but cannot actively expand qur cultural knowledge.On the other hand,students pay sufficient attention to cross-cultural awareness.Through the literature and research to analyze influence factors of cross-cultural awareness,and to give some suggestions,such as for teachers and students,etc.According to the study,the author tries to give students,teachers and schools some tentative suggestions on the basis of the study results.Firstly,students should clear that English study not equal to vocabulary and grammar study and the purpose of learning English is not “high score” itself.So as an English learner,ample knowledge is more important.Secondly,students should arise their interest and motivation to learn cross-cultural knowledge actively.Thirdly,teachers should take English culture teaching seriously and adopt a strategy in class,and strengthen professional skill training,which is essential to cultivate students’ cross-cultural awareness.Finally,schools should provide more opportunities to build a beneficial atmosphere for English learning.In a word,the author hopes this study could provide some references for students’ cross-cultural awareness cultivation.Hopefully,the study could give references for future studies and better improve students’ cross-cultural awareness ability.
