Urban Population Suburbanization Power Mechanism

Suburbanization is an inevitable product of urbanization when urbanization develops to an advanced stage. Suburbanization shows that people, jobs and service industries move from the inside city to the suburbs. Population suburbanization is the main manifestation of suburbanization, which is the process of people in the city core moving to the suburbs. Generally believed that the typical sign of population suburbanization is the number of people in the city core begins to decline absolutely. The study of population suburbanization has always been a hot spot in urban geography in recent years. A number of scholars have studied the dynamic mechanism of population suburbanization in some cities of China, and they compared the dynamic mechanism with cities in foreign counties. This thesis is on the basis of the predecessors'academic achievements, using the population data of the six districts of Jinan in four years 1990,1995,2000 and 2007, it analyzes the spatio-temporal distribution and changes of urban population in these districts, which includes the population growth, the annual rate of population growth and the changes of population density, as well as the changes in the township of every geographical circle in each phase. And in accordance with Peter Hall's model of urban change, this thesis proposes a four-stage theory on the process of suburbanization development. By analyzing the changes in the spatio-temporal distribution of urban population, it analyzes the dynamic mechanism of population suburbanization in Jinan.This thesis can be divided into five parts. PartⅠis Introduction, which primarily focuses on the research background and significance of population suburbanization, research trends at home and abroad, research contents and methods, as well as the concepts of suburb, suburbanization and population suburbanization. The second part describes and compares the general process and dynamic mechanism of population suburbanization at home and abroad. PartⅢbriefly describes the regional overview of Jinan and defines the geographic unit in this research. Then based on statistical data on population growth and distribution of Jinan, it gives an overall analysis and a phased analysis. Finally based on a four-stage theory of suburbanization, it concludes that Jinan is in which stage of population suburbanization. PartⅣstudies the dynamic mechanism of population suburbanization in Jinan, respectively from the level of economic development and urbanization, political and institutional reform, urban redevelopment and urban planning, new area development, transport and communications, as well as the changes in terms of living concepts in living residents, and so on. PartⅤis the conclusion of this thesis and further study prospects.The research indicates that:Jinan is in the embryonic stage of suburbanization in 1990-1995 period, and its population is mainly inclined to concentrate in the city core; It is in the initial stage of population suburbanization in 1995-2000 period, and the number of population in the main core area begins to decline, also the population begin to move from the main core area to the second core area; It is in the developing stage in 2000-2007 period, and people begin to move from the second core area to the peri-urban area. In the process of population suburbanization in Jinan, the rise in the level of economic development and urbanization, the reform of land system, housing system and household registration system, urban redevelopment and urban planning, the development of transport and communications, and other factors all make an improving role in the process of population suburbanization. As the gradual rise in the level of economic development and urbanization, and the increasing popularity of private cars, the centrifugal force in Jinan city will further strengthen, and the urban population will be relocated to more distant suburbs.
