This dissertation for master degree is a case study which mainly focuses on tracking studies of teaching activities of the experimental kindergarten from its middle class to top class in English immersion program and children's English(second language) proficiency measurement of that graduating class. In this study, the acquisition and the development characteristics of children's second language, the overall level of early childhood second language developmental and acquisition characteristics are obtained, meanwhile the developmental role of children's second language is summarized, all of which enrich the research results of English language immersion significantly.The specific issues were mainly composed of the following two aspects:(1) The children's development of the subscales in second language acquisition process:vocabulary, the diversity of vocabulary, the complete sentences and its proportion of children's whole outputs(COM), the mean length of utterances(MLU), the mean length of turns(MLT), and verbal communication behavior, etc;(2) The development of children's second language evaluation results and analysis:the overall performance distribution of the early children's literacy and oral level, the differences in children's language development between genders; children's oral developmental level of all subscales, children's literacy developmental level of all subscales, the influence of children's participating in other type classes to children's language skills.Through regular tracking the activities of children in English immersion education are collected in the form of record image data, six of which are selected as a sample and are analyzed quantitatively by CHILDRES system, so an overall analysis of development and changes in the characteristics of children's access to English is performed through following aspects:vocabulary, the diversity of vocabulary, the complete sentences and its proportion of children's whole outputs, the mean length of utterances(MLU), the mean length of turns(MLT), and verbal communication behavior, etc; Pre-LAS2000 tool is used to evaluate each child's oral and pre-literacy proficiency, includes five oral and six pre-literacy tests. The results show the early childhood's second language development and acquisition characteristics, as well as the developmental level of the second language.The study indicates that the English acquisition and development of children is a creative language constructing process on the basis of the imitation of adults; Children's English language proficiency has experienced a process from inflexible to comparatively flexible, in addition it presents as some core types; the children's oral skill is better than pre-literacy skill in the English immersion program.
