The course of track and field is the main course of the physical education in our colleges and universities and is considered to be the basis for physical education. The track and field teaching helps to develop physical fitness, hone and mold the sentiments, promote the harmonious between the body and mind of the students, which lays a good foundation for their later life. The investigation of 11 colleges and universities in Heilongjiang Province shows that: 5 colleges have set up track and field lesson and 6 colleges don't , and the commencement rate was only 45%, and it will be weakened in the future. This shows that the college track and field teaching in our province is in a bind.In this paper, I studied the teaching of track and field in colleges of Heilongjiang Province by means of literature searching, investigating, mathematical statistics and logic analysis , and strive to have a comprehensive grasp of the situation of the track and field teaching in the colleges of Heilongjiang province, and explore the restraining factors of the development of the teaching of track and field in colleges of Heilongjiang Province, and put forward practical countermeasures. The conclusions are as follows:1. The track and field teaching lags behind the pace of reform of physical education in colleges. The projects of track and field offered in colleges are still walking, running, jumping and pitching which do not reflect the characteristics of the times and the trends of current education reform, and there is no new curriculum resources adapting to the needs of students.2. The value orientation of college students have changed with the development of our society. Nowadays, students have great interest in the subject of fashion, leading-edge and casual nature, while they keep a arm's length from the subjects which are regarded as "bitter, tired, dirty" and need high physical fitness.3. Students have mistaken ideas of track and field teaching. They think that college track and field teaching is the training for tournament, so they feel discouraged, disgusted, and even repellent.4. The traditional teaching mode limits the development of track and field teaching. College track and field teaching lacks of enlightening and inquiry-based methods. The teaching instruments does not reflect the characteristics of the times and current development of sports science and technology. The modern teaching facilities such as multimedia and computer rarely appear in the track and field course. And the teaching materials lack of the content of game-oriented and fitness-oriented.5. Faculty structure is irrational and the overall level of teaching is low, which is reflected by the failure of scientific research, training and teaching in practice.6. There are misunderstandings in the reform of track and field teaching of colleges in Heilongjiang province. For example, the guiding ideology of teaching is not clear, and the tend of allodium is excessive, and the option-based teaching lacks of guidance.
