On The Molding Of The National Image In Chinese News Photography

China, as a country with a long history, has experienced a number of anti-colonial wars in recent times, regime changes and internal reforms and gradually formed her own national image. The process of constructing the national image was notable and characterized, especially after the founding of new China. It is easy for people to recognize the national image wholly, to know more about China, to read about the various significant events in China in a more rational manner, and to face various problems in development of China. China, as a great power of rapid rise, because of its unique historical background and political system different from the Western society, tends to have some "negative image" in the development process. It has become one of the major problems to be emphasized and solved in building the national image to eliminate negative effects and seek more broad and beneficial development space.Since the birth of photography it has had the function of recording social and historical changes. Among classifications of many photography modes, the news photography, as the main photography means to record the news facts, has becomes one of modes recording the major historical events and social changes. Chinese news photography is considered as the witness of China’s historical changes, and the history of its formation and development is the one of the social development and progress accompanied with witness of formation of the national image, so its research and analysis will provide more reference for the research of the national image.From the perspective of news photography, the paper discussed the relationship between news photography and the image of the nation, the role of the news photography in formation of the New China and the relationship between Chinese news photography and the national image. In addition, reasonable suggestions and recommendations were put forward from the angle of shaping the national image. The practical significance and the social value of the image’s shaping and perfection were discussed as well in the hope of providing some new additions and personal opinions on the news photography related to the national image.
