Along with the development of computer technology came demands for more individualand more intelligent software. The agent technology which belongs to Distributed Artificial Intelligence field has become a hot spot of research. Agent-oriented techniques, which focus on agent, have the significant potential to improve current practice in software engineering and to extend the range of applications that can feasibly be tackled, thus offering an exciting new means of analysing, designing and building complex software systems. However, before the powerful agent programming paradigm can be adopted in commercial or industrial settings, a complete environment similar to that for other programming languages must be developed. As one of the realization methods, an agent platform has been developed in accordance with the FIPA specifications by means of Object-Oriented techniques. It supports communication between remote agents and multi-task parallelism within an agent. Based on the implementation of the platform, the thesis expounds the development procedure in detail after a brief introduction to the concepts related to agent. At the same time, the thesis gives a simple overview on agent-oriented techniques and CARBA. In addition, it introduces design methods and test examplesof programming based on the platform.
