| Universal Serial Bus (USB) is one of the most important developments in PC peripheral interconnect technology since the introduction of serial and parallel ports in the early 1980's. The benefits of USB, such as ease of use, true plug and play, high performance, and reduced overall system cost, are just a few of the reasons this technology has gone from specification to product development in less than 2 years. At the same time, the condition around the machines in the industry field is more complicated. The requirement is increasing to make those monitoring and controlling instruments more simple and ease of use from the field engineers. And as you know, the key technology in those monitoring devices used in the industry is data acquisition, analysis and control system's design and deployment. All of these depend strongly on the use of DSP and it self's development. How to use the latest technology to satisfy the above requirement is this paper's main gain.Making the DSP and USB together can provide an excellent DAQ solution. USB give the system a very simple interface, good extension, and also make the system like more a pipeline. The complex data operation left in the DAQ system can be done by DSP, which provide a strong ability in data processing.There are two parts in this paper. The first, "New technology, USB& DSP", consist of the evolution of the DAQ system, new features of DAQ system needed by modern industry, how the DSP & USB affect the system architecture. The second, "The USB solutions", and shows a step-by-step methodology to development a new DAQ system based in USB & DSP. I introduce a demo how to analysis a DAQ system and construct it. I provide three chapters to show the details about how to design and develop the hardware, firmware and host software of the USB device, which is one of the most important devices in the DAQ system based in USB & DSP.This M.S. degree project's main gain is to research & develop the USB tech in DSP system, and provide a doable total solution. |
