This thesis studies how to design and build an interactive Web-based virtual laboratory environment. A remote electronic virtual laboratory system is established, by which students can carry out a series of experiments including both analog and digital electronics circuits. This thesis presents a general method to create Internet-based remote virtual laboratory. LabVIEW application environment is adopted for implementation of local instrument control. Programmable instruments such as function generator, multi-meters, and oscilloscopes have been linked to the computer through general purpose interface bus (GPIB). The control core of the hardware platform is a Single Chip Micyoco MCS-51, and a time-sharing bus is used to switch the test point in analog experiment and to control the input and output of the digital experiment. To implement remote-control of instruments through Internet, a double client-server interface between WWW server and LabVIEW program was exploited. Commands and parameters can be submitted to the Web server via Internet browser, so that users can control remote instruments and view the experiment results at the same time. The rudimental system of the laboratory has been created. By improving the corresponding methods and techniques, the system will be more suitable for realizing remote-control via Internet.
