| The rapid development of market economy and China's entry into the WTO have brought both opportunities and challenges not only to the development of China's enterprises but also to the industrial and commercial administration. To meet the needs of government function transformation and market economy development, to improve earnestly the means of law enforcement and supervision and management in the industrial and commercial administration of all levels, and to develop and utilize fully the resources of industrial and commercial information and thus better serve the economic construction and enterprise production and management, it is imperative that we establish an industrial and commercial MIS which is highly integrated, information-sharing, efficient and stable, advanced and practical.This thesis has briefly introduced the concept and development of MIS. MIS, composed of people and computers, etc., is a system, which can provide information to support the functions of operation, management, analysis and decision-making within an organization. In the course of its development, MIS has undergone the stages of data processing, integrated data processing and systematic data processing.This thesis has also conducted a detailed study on the development courses and their respective characteristics of DBMS architecture. With the development of computer system structure from intensive host computer system to C/S system and then to the present distributed system, the architecture of DBMS has also generally undergone three development stages: intensive host/terminal architecture, two-tier C/S architecture and three-tier (mutil-tier) architecture. Owing to the faintly low performance of PCs, intensive host/terminal architecture is beneficial to making full use of the high performance of the host computers. However, such architecture lacking flexibility is unable to meet the demands of rapidly increasing information and increasingly flexible and complex information processing. Through network protocol (TCP/IP,IPX/SPX),C/S architecture conducts the connection and communication between the client and the servers, in which the clients sendrequests to the servers while the servers respond to the requests and carry on corresponding service. By means of its merits of high performance and openness, C/S architecture became the leading DBMS architecture in 1990s. The three-tier (mutil-tier) architecture is the succession and development of C/S architecture. Added between the clients and the servers is a application server, which carries out some necessary calculation and is responsible for the interactive task with DBMS and then sends the results to the clients. The three-tier (mutil-tier) architecture has enhanced the flexibility and expandability of the system. By concentrating the clients' business logic on the intermediate position, the system has gained the independence on the business logic. Tied conveniently with Internet, the system has made the application of C/S extend to the whole Internet area. The system has moved large amount of data processing from the client to the application servers and database servers, thus bringing about extreme elasticity of the system.This thesis has had an intensive study on some representative industrial and commercial MIS in China. Stone Boyun {{Red Shield Industrial and Commercial Administration MIS)} is a C/S_based and integrated application software in industrial and commercial management. The system has the characteristics of good ratio of performance and price and reliability, data_sharing, accessibility of mutil_function and integrated information query, simple and practical the users' interface, rapid registration and procedurally controlled business operation. Nevertheless, owing to the enormous work load of maintenance, remewal and upgrade of the clients' terminal, the system can not conduct its application in Internet.
