For the realtime requirement of Remote Watching in Power System, the theory of Video Compression and the application of Wavelet transform are systematically studied. The thesis consists of four parts.The first part introduces the Remote Watching and the basic theory of Video Compression which is one of the important steps. The basic components of Video Compression and some techniques usually used are also introduced. Then a brief introduction of international standard MPEG is presented.The second part presents the basic theory of wavelet transform according to the mathrmatics tools used in the thesis.The Multiresolution Analysis and Mallat Algorithm are especially introduced. Then the application of wavelet transform to Image Compression is researched, and the result of the experiment proves it.The third part proposes a new compression and coding scheme with DCT(Discrete Consine Transform) and wavelet transform through solving the problem that is DFD(Displaced Frame Difference) after Motion Compensation has many high-frequency coefficients which handicap compression. The new DFD which is preprocessed with DCT is adaptive to wavelet transform. The new algorithm has been tested with experiment and achieved the higher PSNR than the original algorithm, which proves its availability.The forth part introduces the hardware design of Embedded Remote Watching based on Wavelet Video Compression. The schematic drawing and the circuit board is presented. Up to now the Image can been outputted through the circuit board.
