| Component Object Model (COM) is the component technical specification provided by Microsoft, designed to promote software interoperability; that is, to allow two or more applications or "component" to easily cooperate with one another, even if they were written by different vendors at different times, in different programming languages, or if they are running on different machines running different operating systems. With the development of COM, it has been the foundation technology for Microsoft. Net, providing a foundation platform for component software programming and multipal layers software architecture. COM has achieved huge success in both operation system and business software applications.In order to comprehend COM in details and make a better use of COM, this paper makes a deeply and systemic analysis over COM, and explains all kinds of conceptions, contents and significance. Using COM and XML technology, abiding open Instant Messaging protocol, Jabber, this paper also designes a COM-based distributed Instant Messaging software. This design not only support uers' communication from local system or between seminar systems, but also from other instant messaging system as ICQ and MSN. It can be proved by design and exprementation, this software system is flexible while being desigened, paralle while being coding and distributed when it is put into use. |
