"selected Works" Collation Notes

Wenxuan(Selected Works) which was compiled by Xiao Tong in the Liang dynasty is the earliest collection of poems and essays that still exists. The studies of Wenxuan(Selected Works) gradually became a kind of special knowledge after the Sui and Tang dynasties. The Traditional study of selecting came to its climax in the Qing dynasty. In the Qing dynasty, Hu Kejia invited Gu Guangqi and Peng Zhaosun who were specialists in the study of editing and proofreading of ancient texts to edit and proofread the edition of You Mao that he gained. After doing that work, they wrote textual criticism of Wenxuan(Selected Works) of ten volumes. However, there are still some mistakes in their textual criticism because they had no chance to see the writing edition of Dunhuang, the ancient copies and the edition of assembled annotations. Gao Buyin's Wenxuan Lizhu Tishu(The Explanatory Notes of Lishan's Annotations of Selected Works) used the ancient copies stored in the Imperial Palace Museum and the remaining volumes of the writing edition of Dunhuang to correct the mistakes of all editions, but he could only write 8 volumes. After that Chinese scholars seldom take efforts to systematically edit and proofread Wenxuan(Selected Works). So the study of editing and proofreading of Wenxuan(Selected Works) Should be an important subject of modern study of selecting.The Copies of Collected Annotations to Wenxuan of the Tang Dynasty is the extremely precious documents which preserved the original features of the copies of the Tang dynasty. Therefore, it has special value of documents and editions for editing and proofreading.Concentrating on the remaining pieces in the Copies of Collected Annotations to Wenxuan of the Tang Dynasty, I got the block-printed Wenxuan compiled by Hu Ke-jia which was photocopied by Zhonghua publishing house in 1977 as the basic edition, collated the Copies of Collected Annotations to Wenxuan of the Tang Dynasty which was photocopied by Shanghai guji press in 2000 with Wenxuan Annotated by Wuchen which was photocopied by Zhonghua publishing house in 1987, and refered to the remaining volumes of the writing edition of Dunhuang, I did the following works:1)Complementing more textual evidences to the textual criticism of the former specialists;2)Doing textual research about the mistakes in the block-printed edition of Wenxuan;3)Discussing the views of the former specialists;4)Providing basis for sorting out the text of Wenxuan;5)Observing the course of extorting from the writing edition to the block-printed edition of Wenxuan.
