With the development of computer graphics and computer software and hardware, Virtual Reality technology is paid more and more attention by researchers. Incorporated with the tenth-five project of Air Force -The Intelligent Cabin Show Controlling and Flight Data Management Record Technology, and key construction project "Information Virtual Visualization Technical Research ", taking advantage of virtual reality workstation and stereo projection system, we put further research on the modeling and real-time rendering technology of Virtual Cockpit scene.This thesis analyzed the systematic characteristic and application demand of Virtual Cockpit, designed the hardware structure and software develop environment, proposed the scheme to realize system.This thesis analyzed the feature of Virtual Cockpit model and researched 3D modeling technology of different objects, especially particle system modeling method and Fractal modeling method of irregular fuzzy objects. Different modeling method was adopted for different kinds of objects.This thesis completed objects modeling with 3D modeling software, researched the model simplification technology, used LOD technology, cutting the invisible area technology and instance technology to accelerate real-time rendering.The modeling and real-time rendering technology of irregular fuzzy object is problem and focus in virtual reality technical research field. This thesis analyzed the feature of static irregular fuzzy object, considering the feature that it will not change with time gone, we adopted "billboard" technology to realize it. It is convenient to use Particle System to simulate dynamic irregular fuzzy object and Particle System can be adjusted according system device. Taking fire as instance, we researched the method that generated and displayed dynamic irregular fuzzy object.This thesis studied the technology of 3D terrain visualization and real-time rendering. We modified the screen-space error metric equation in view-dependent LOD algorithm, it can fully considers feature of terrain and view-dependent, and adjust system capability according to threshold of the error and demand of user.This thesis realized the prototype of Virtual Cockpit system. The result shows that Virtual Cockpit is better at real-time rendering. Research of Virtual Cockpit has important theory meaning and practical value.
