A real time software video encoder designing based on PhilipsNexperia PNX1300 multimedia DSP is discussed on this paper.DVE-2, a Philips'multimedia processing board, provides thehardware platform in the process of the encoder designing, which isconstructed by a Nexperia PNX1300 DSP CPU integrated with otherperipheral circuits.In the process of the encoder designing, some existing videoencoding arithmetic is referenced. Firstly, the theoretical verifyingof the encoder/decoder is made on personal computer using C language.Then the encoder is grafted to Nexperia PNX1300 DSP. In addition,some software optimizations are applied in order to improve itsperformance.Laboratory testing has shown that the encoder can fully satisfy ourdesigning requirements. For the most important of these requirements,the aim of real time video encoding has been reached.Until now, the encoder designing has been finished; the remote videomonitoring system based on the encoder has also been put intoapplication.
