| In the new century, political multiformity in the whole world, economic globalization trend and great development of electronic media represented by Internet across national boundaries make the international communication more and more important, so international news that is an important part of international communication should be paid more attention by people. According to this point, the text chooses the most representative China and U.S.A., and compares the contemporary international news of the two countries.At first, the article discusses the concept and important functions of international news. After enumerating many definitions of international news that are stated by domestic and foreign scholars, the author adopts the view of Ma sheng-rong ,vice president of Xinhua News Agency , namely " international news is that news agencies, newspaper radio stations and TV stations ,etc. communicate different kinds of messages that take place in other country through different carriers , make audiences accept the news that they don't know, that is to say ,it is the spread of a kind of international information." This is one kind of narrow-sense international news view, it is not to take the audiences but the news media institute vassal state as the frame of reference, limits international news clearly, so using this kind of definition, guarantees the international news events that this article chooses have the commeasurability. As a part of international communication, international news has close connections with international politics, international relations, international economy and intercultural communication ,etc. Its important functions include: influencing the national image, influencing the international relations and making public mood.In the second part, the author analyses similarities and differences of international news of China and U.S.A. mainly from five respects: news value, reporting idea, content of reporting, quantity of reporting, form of expression and skills. On the value of the news, the news value includes such factors as freshness, importance, accession, significance ,etc, which have been accepted by the press of China and U.S.A. andembodied in a lot of international news. However, in the news practice, these understandings of these factors of both sides are not same. The journalists of U.S.A. mostly consider the independence of media while choosing and reporting news events; the guide of public opinion of the news reports of China are more emphasized. In the reporting idea, facing with important international events, the media of the two countries make the reporting idea carefully, which mostly embody official wills. Chinese media are unanimous, but in U.S.A, reporting ideas of some major media are contrary to the government's fundamental keynote. The article analyses emphatically the similarities and differences in content, quantity, form of expression and skills, then points out that there is disparity in international news of China and U.S.A. in some respects, especially in skills.The third part discusses some causes producing these similarities and differences. Firstly, it is the news rule, for the journalists of the two countries all try to report news quickly and accurately. In the international news report, both sides work according to these rules basically. Secondly it is the matter of national fundamental interests, for the reporter of any national media, while reporting the international news, can't break away from its national security, politics, culture and ideology. To the international events, what to report and how to report must all be under the precondition of safeguarding national interests. Thirdly the system of communication and media's function are also the causes. The differences in such aspects as ownership, organizational form of media of two countries and so on, have influenced their own international news reports. Culture is an important factor too, for the origin of U.S.A.'s culture comes from Puritanism, liberalism, individualism and republicanism, which form value and characteristic of U.S.A.'s culture; Chinese culture is a kind of kindred culture essentially and pays attention to collective interests and honor. It can't tolerate that individual breaks away from the collective to acts casually and wildly, and the culture characteristics of both sides all reflect international news report. In addition, the difference of modes of thinking is an important reason. Chinese reporters layparticularly emphasis on abstract thinking, while American reporters lay particularly emphasis on imaginary thinking, so the international reports of the two countries demonstrate a lot of differences.Finally, the author believes that the establishing of China's international image can't leave the communication of foreign information. But at present, China's media strength is not very strong, and there is very big disparity between China and the USA, so it is imperative to raises our international news report level. Therefore it is necessary to improve our Chinese international news report. To the problems that exist in Chinese international news report, the article puts forward the following solutions: combining localization with internationalization; reducing propagandistic meaning and paying attention to the objective report; regarding great media events as the opportunities and do well in the scoop; increasing the number of journalists and improving their qualities.To sum up, the international news report is the focus of contemporary media's competitions of all countries. If our media want to advance the fame, increase influences and play a more important role on the international arena, we must renovate our ideas, set about from the concrete practical problems, learn from the western journalists' valuable experience, improve the reporting of the international news make a contribution to molding the national image. Finally we will form the strong public opinion strength that matches the international status and reputation of China. |
