Because of various benefits, such as low price, high efficiency of using network, etc., VoIP has become one of the services that grow at the fastest speed in telecommunication industry. H.323 is one of the most important protocols of VoIP, and one of the most mature technological VoIP standard, also H.323 is one of the most common applied VoIP standard. There are four main components: terminal, gateway, gatekeeper, and MCU in H.323 system. Among them, terminal is an important part, it offers users the function of voice telecommunication and other functions such as video communication. There are two main technologic implements of VoIP terminals which are based on PCs and hardware IP Phones. Now the most are based on PCs, the purpose of the design is to aim at the general IP Phones market, and to work out a VoIP terminal based on H.323 which has high performance with low price and can be easy used.Firstly, the author introduces the H.323 system architecture and some important protocols. The embedded system's architecture, some design technologies, including some embedded system's design concepts are also introduced.The author also introduces the CPU and development environment used in the design.Secondly the author implements the concrete design of the project, including hardware's architecture design, software's architecture design, hardware's resource distribution, BSP design, the parting of software function modules, the organizing technologies, and the concerte program etc.Finally, the author introduces some testing technologies in VoIP field and implements some technologies in the design, also makes a summary of the design and puts some advanced ideas of the design.
