The ideas and concepts discussed in this paper, which combine the author's practical experience in the process of developing Architectural Design Institute MIS, are an introduction of application of UML in designing and realizing system.With the development of software technique, the traditional function-oriented methods of development cannot fit in with the complexity and inconstant requirements.At present, the object-oriented development technique has already become major technology of software development.Unified Modeling Language is a standard language for specifying, visualizing, constructing and documenting the artifacts of object-oriented software systems.It has aggregated the advantage of methods in the field of modeling in the past ten years. It eliminates difference on expressing in various development technique, become a leading language of modeling in the field of object-oriented technology.UML is applied to each phase in software engineering.Especially, after Rational Unified Process appears, its application is more extensive.Based on researching references about UML and RUP, in this thesis, the application using UML and RUP to software development during the analysis and design period had been researched.This paper deeply explores and carries out researches on the construction of MIS of prospecting designing institutes, and ways and key issues of developing MIS.The work of the thesis mainly explains as follows:1 .It analyzes the characteristics of prospecting industry and the current situations of information management systems.Comparing several research methods of MIS systems and taking its characteristics into account, the developing of UML-based MIS system is suggested.2.After a brief introduction of UML, The paper describes the process of setting up UML model, studies the cases used in different phases of analyzing, designing, implementing, configuring and testing, and then explains the approachesof exploiting using case drive.3.Questions and experience had been discussed that accumulated in the during of modeling, furthermore, some my own suggestion had been put forward.Because of adopting objected-analysis and design based on UML, the process of development became more formal, and high quality products had been exploited.
