The organic light-emitting device (OLED) has been rapidly developed recently. Because it has so many advantages, Such as active emitting, high brightness, full- color, fast response, compact structure, high contrast, wide view angle, low cost, and can be fabricated on flexible substrates. That is called the third generation display technology. So many companies and laboratory have been doing research and development in this area. However, like many new technologies of the future, many technical questions have to be solved. To prolong the life-time of OLED is one of the most important things. This thesis mainly discuses some questions about the life-time of the OLED.In the first chapter, the mechanisms of OLED, some basic concepts, the device structure, the material, the research status and the future of the OLED are all introduced respectively. In the second chapter, we do some research about the dark spots and encapsulation of organic light-emitting devices. The non-emissive areas with dot like shapes in the active areas which are sometimes referred to as'dark spot'or'black spots'. Their further growth gradually reduces the active areas and leads to ultimate destruction of entire diodes. We describe the phenomena and direction of the change of the black spots when the OLED are operated, and explained the formation of the black spot. To prolong the lifetime of OLED, various methods and techniques have been proposed for encapsulating OLED with protective layers of varying compositions. We give some effective encapsulation methods for OLED and some project for the getters of FOLED.Low permeation ratio measurement through OLED is very critical and there is no effective method to measuring the low permeation moisture rate of 1×10 -6 g/m 2/ day,Hence, the development of a moisture permeation measurement system would be very useful to help us understanding of permeation mechanisms and the device lifetime as well as degradation. From the third chapter to the sixth chapter we mainly discuss a novel moisture permeation ratio measurement method, and model was developed qualitatively and quantitatively with the'calcium degradation test'method.
