Dual-Polarized Microstrip Patch Antenna (DPMPA) has many advantages such as simple structure, small volume, light weight, and easily integrated with microwave apparatus or circuit. Moreover, it has the ability to send two electromagnetic waves with orthogonal polarization via only one patch so as to increase the carried information. Especially ground has different echo signals to different polarized wave. When DPMPA is used in SAR system, dual-polarized mode is able to provide more ground data so that Radar could distinguish ground objects more accurately. Therefore, DPMPA has attracted more and more attention.Recently, there are already many publications on DPMPA, parts of which have been applied to military and public equipments. However, there are less reports on how to design a DPMPA element that can acquire all characteristics of broad bandwidths, high isolation and good radiation. So it leaves much space to further explore. This thesis focuses on the study of dual-polarized characteristic of microstrip antenna and array, while a novel dual-polarized slot-coupled microstrip patch antenna array with 2 X 2 elements will be presented and developed. The former two chapters mainly describe basic concepts of Microstrip Patch Antenna (MPA) and its array. Then next section continues to investigate the affect of different kinds of patches and feed networks, all of which are foundation of further designs. In chapter 3, the formulae of input impedance, isolation, and far-field radiation are deduced after referring to Cavity-model and Multi-port network theory. A dual-polarized microstrip patch antenna element is realized by adding multi-stacked patch layout and H-shaped slot-coupled feed in order to obtain high isolation and low...
