New generation video compression standard H.264/AVC, which had a profound effect on the storage and transmission of video mobile communication, stream media and high definition television, was proposed formally at the end of 2004. But huge complexity of computation restricts its applied range. Some key technology of H.264 coding system were researched in this paper to overcome these shortcomings as far as possible. Major achievements of work were listed as follows:Research achievements on algorithms(1) Aiming at ineffectiveness of motion search of preview algorithms, this paper proposed a fast motion search method based on temporal and spacial relationship, and experimental result showed that a better coding efficiency was obtained; Aiming at ineffectiveness of inter prediction mode decision algorithmic of preview algorithm, a inter prediction mode decision algorithmic based on the combination of symmetrical area, zero vector and block merging method was proposed, and experimental results showed that the new scheme was able to achieve a reduction of 60% encoding time on average and with a negligible performance loss.(2) Multiple reference frame technology was also researched, and the result demonstrated that the best number of reference frame was 2 or 3.(3) Preview rate control didn't consider the influence of image texture to the distribution of bit, so this paper proposed a new basic unit rate control algorithm based on texture, and experimental results showed that it could smooth the rate considerably.(4) After analyzing the effect of intra macroblock refresh and FMO on the coding performance, a new FMO method called adaptive FMO was proposed, which had less effect on the performance of coding system, and might be helpful to errer concealment.Research achievements on project realizationThe paper got a minimum coding system with little loss of coding efficiency through simplifying JM source code, and then implement a H.264 encoder Filter on the DirectShow, which satisfied all the requests of H.264 standard.
