| The increasing development and integrated utilization of computer technology, multimedia technology and communication technology have brought human beings into information era. The new information environment confront the individual users who have been involved in the huge information database. Although it is easy to acquire the information, to get the accurate and valuable personalized information is a difficult task. In colleges and universities, the conflict of supply and demand of internet information makes the requirements of universities faculties and students' personalized information more intensive. They expect the advent of the information service to the question of personalized specific requirement. Personalized information service based on digital resources is an efficient way to solve those problems which were caused by miscellaneous network information for faculties and students in universities.Meanwhile, as the special institutions of keeping, using and transmitting information, university libraries are also changing quickly in such informatization trends. Their massive service mode of focusing on literature and management is hard to go on, while the gap between supply and demand becomes increasingly bigger. University libraries have to change their former way in which invest little in researching, promoting, educating, guiding users, and begin to introduce new thoughts and practices of enterprise management into traditional management to maximize the service effect.This article focuses on the personalized information services of university libraries in Sichuan province, pointing out the inevitability for university libraries to carry out personalized services. It argues that improving personalized services is the urgent and chief challenge for university libraries. Only by improving personalized services could university libraries timely and forwardly satisfy information demand of studying, teaching, researching and quality education of various university users at right places, in right ways. It also could ensure competitive advantage position of university library as the information center. Further more, this article discusses the current situation and main problems of personalized information service of university libraries in Sichuan province, and points out the personalized information service of university libraries in Sichuan province is still in a beginning and exploring stage which is far behind universities in developed countries and some advanced universities in China.Accordingly, this article puts forward the countermeasures to improve personalized service of university libraries in Sichuan province. These countermeasures can be concluded as a'three-step strategy': firstly advance whole strength to establish the base for personalized service, then gradually develop personalized service fields, and finally implement overall personalized service.In a word, personalized information service is the trend of the development of university digital libraries and the key of attracting university users to participate in the building of modern digital libraries. Facing such challenges and opportunities, Sichuan's university libraries must develop the service mechanism of professionalization and individualization, supporting the gain and innovation of knowledge of users, and advancing their capability and contribution of service. |
