Self-organizing wireless network is a kind of self organized wireless network, which is not dependent on the fixed infrastructure. It has small restrictions in time and space. Besides it is convenient and flexible to network and widely used in the rescue, the battlefield, the exploration and so on, so it becomes a current hot spot of research. Now commonly we use two methods including network simulation and experiments of actual network to verify and test the protocols and algorithms of self-organizing wireless network. But both methods have limitations. Network simulation is a kind of simulation behavior which uses computer technology to build network topology and realize the network protocols, which may causes some deviation and less control of real-time network monitoring, configuration and analysis. On the other hand, the experiment of actual network usually is not very convenient and costs too much.Hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) simulation technology is a kind of new technology which syncretizes the network simulation and actual network experiment, connects a part of real equipments to the simulation test loop, and uses computers and physical equipments to realize the simulation of system models. For a part of real equipments added in the system, the HWIL simulation is more precise than network simulation, and it can offer real-time configuration and monitoring. Besides, with respect to the actual network experiment, the HWIL simulation is less in the need of hardware resource, easier for experiment manipulation and repetition, which makes large-scale network simulation possible.This subject is to build the channel module of such a self-organizing wireless network HWIL simulation system. The system uses multiple computers in the Ethernet environment to simulate self-organizing wireless network communications environment, without any wireless network equipment. The simulation content includes the following: wireless channel access control algorithm, routing forward function of node, multi-layer multi-hop self-organizing network, networking and communication in dynamic topology and real time monitoring and configuration of the whole system. Self-organizing wireless network HWIL simulation system can be based on the indoor local area networks, and make use of the existing computer equipments and network facilities to quickly build up a wireless communication network simulation environment. In this simulation environment, we can design and test the feasibility, reasonableness and effectiveness of a variety of network layout scheme, and offer further implementation reference for layout of communication network. Moreover, such an introduction of wireless communication network simulation in virtual combat environment will provide a more realistic approximation of battlefield communication environment.This article describes the design and implementation of the channel module in self-organizing wireless network HWIL simulation system. Realistic simulation for the actual wireless channel communication environment is the fundamental goal of channel module. On the premise that real-time demand of the HWIL system is assured, this channel module mainly simulates the multi-channel environment, frame error rate and 802.11 DCF protocol.
