Cluster-based Ad Hoc Networks Intrusion Detection System

Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), also known as mobile wireless self-organization network, is a wireless network that with dynamic network topology changes, multi-hop and non-infrastructure. It does not depend on any fixed infrastructure to achieve network connectivity and data transfer, but through the mobile nodes'collaboration and self-organization. MANET has the importance value of strategic and vast commercial prospects because of it have some advantages that flexible to build, fast and convenient configuration and low cost to construction.The security research of MANET is becoming a hot issue because of its application with more and more widespread in various fields. Because of its uniqueness, MANET not only have more security threats than the traditional wireless network, but also more difficult to set up an effective defensive measures. Intrusion detection technology is the second line of defense in the area of information security, how effectively set up for MANET intrusion detection system becomes a research hot issue.In order to solve the security problems and threats faced by the MANET, this article is committed to build a suitable environment for MANET intrusion detection system solutions. Through the analyzing the concept, characteristics and application areas of the MANET, the thesis pointed out that the security threats of the MANET and the security objectives. The article analysis of the MANET Intrusion Detection System combined with the technology of Intrusion Detection System.From the introductions, the thesis designed an MANET Intrusion Detection System based on the clustering. The solution is dividing the whole MANET into some cluster regions, and selected the cluster head and cluster member nodes under the clustering algorithm. The cluster head is responsible for the intrusion detection of entire cluster region, and cluster member nodes are only responsible for its own intrusion detection. And then article is analyzing the clustering algorithms used in the system in detail, and not only explaining the functions, structure of main modules, but also explaining the design of the module detailed. Finally using the NS2 simulation software to simulating, testing the clustering algorithm used in the Intrusion Detection System, and simulating energy consumption based on intrusion detection attacks, and at last analyzed the experimental results detailed. After the experiment, it shows that the MANET Intrusion Detection System based on the clustering can run reliable. However, this model still has some inadequate, required further study and improvement in the future work.
