| Based on Wenchun Earthquake reports from the People's Daily and the New York Times, this paper aims to trace the underlying reasons behind the differences between the two daily newspapers concerning the disaster news coverage. Disaster is a manifestion of enormous conflicts between human beings and their environment for the impact from nature or human. Special measures must be taken and outside resources be needed to handle or solve the big problems incurred from the disaster. Media in China, serving as mouthpieces of the Chinese government, are responsible for the Party and the government, while media in west, more commercialized, work toward the doctrine that news is a valuable commodity. |
