A Study Of The Relationship Between Authenticity And Meaningfulness In Disaster News Reports Of Earthquake In Our Country

With the vast territory and complicated natural attributes, China is one of themost frequent earthquake-striken countries. Nowadays, the earthquake disaster newshas become one of the most concerning and the most easily transmitted information,and it is also one type of news to which media has given great importance. With therapid development of China’s media industry, increasingly fierce competition comesinto being among media. The earthquake disaster news has become an important wayof media to attract audience’s attention. Reports of big media group are always able tospread large amounts of information at the first time to obtain a lot of audience. Onthe other hand, accurate and timely news report is the main way to know the disasterfor the audience. At the same time, we can also learn some knowledge of disasterprevention and mitigation along with corresponding actions taken by the country fromvarious forms of news, which exert a positive influence on raising the safetyawareness of citizens and stabilizing the society.In recent years, as for the profession in earthquake disaster news, the mediaindustry has already made considerable progress. In the course of the considerableprogress, some news report media and news reporters often express some thought ofcommercial journalism, the over-emphasized “meaningfulness” stereotype and theconcept of government standard, etc, which are against the nature of news—authenticity, freshness and importance. This paper selected the disaster news of the recent "5.12" Wenchuan earthquake,"9.7" Yiliang earthquake and "4.20" Lushanearthquake as materials. Through sorting, analysis and research, first of all, it finds outthe phenomenon of rumor and the false news reports, utilitarian performance, reportsof error messages, the embodiment of government standard thought, and the lack ofhumanistic concern. Secondly, there also exists lots of experience of China’searthquake disaster news worthy to learn after the comparative observations andstudies of natural disaster news reports, such as "3.11" Japanese Kanto earthquake,hurricane Sandy in the United States, which aims to obtain fresh examples. Therefore,based on the above, the core of this paper comes into being, that is how to deal withthe relationship between the authenticity and meaningfulness in the earthquakedisaster news reports.This paper starts to sort and study from the basic research condition ofearthquake disaster news: the study of the earthquake disaster news transmittingcondition; the latest meaningfulness study of earthquake disaster news; and the studyof correctly improving the combination of meaningfulness and authenticity.Furthermore, it reasonably explores significant problems from the current earthquakedisaster news reports, combining the current reports situation home and abroad withthe feature of China’s publicizing doctrine in news reports, and finding the propercriterion of reporting is also involved in the research of this paper. Based on thehypothesis of news structure mode put forward by Holland scholar Van Dijk, thispaper analyzes each link in earthquake disaster news, and points out some latestmeaningful problems, such as positively sensational and moving rumors regarded asnews, utilitarian performance, embodiment of government standard and commercialjournalism, etc. and it also proposes some reasonable strategies and suggestions:firstly, insists on news professionalism, avoid over-pathetic transmission, reasonablyand fairly report news; secondly, develop the quality of news profession, avoidtransmitting false events, and eliminate news utilitarian; thirdly, establish people-oriented media ethics; fourthly, make distinctions between news reports and indirectcommercial publicity, and reduce the spread of commercial journalism...
