Gantry cranes are large handling machinery that widely used in a variety of industries. With the rapid development of the national economy and logistical business, the requirement for various of gantry crane products has been increasing, and there have been higher demands for reducing product developing time and product design quality. With the intense market competition, rapid response customer design technology for mechanical products is great importance for enterprises to improve their market competition and innovation ability.Based on the analysis of gantry crane modularizing design process, As a product family design idea and a parameterized design method, the theory and key technology of parameterized design technologies for product family are studied in this dissertation, and system configuration of this technology is founded, then use a family modeling method to set up the master model of some gantry crane, and developed parametric design system.Parametric and modularizing design of gantry crane based on Solid- Works and the integration of SolidWorks with the design system are implemented through the second development of SolidWorks by using ActiveX Automation technique. The design system has convenient operation interface and efficient running process due to object-oriented programming method.Furthermore,a database logical structure for the modularizing design system is presented, which assists the integrating management of system design data.For the first time, the parametric and modularizing design system of gantry cranes realizes the integration of parametric design,family design and modularizing design, which contributes to reducing product lead-time and improving the product quality.
