Instant Messaging system (IM) have become a indispensable tool in people's Daily communication, corporate communication, e-commerce and other fields. it strengthens the and improves communication links between people and brought Enormous social and economic benefits. With the growth of peoples'demand for Web applications, WebIM (Web- based Instant Messaging system) has become a hot topic of current research. Relative to the general Instant Messaging system, WebIM is more flexible, convenient and platform- independent. It will have a very board prospects.Different from the traditional Instant Messaging system which is based C / S structure, the WebIM is based B / S structure. WebIM through the way that Web client either polling the server or establish long connection to the server which to transmit of instant messages. These methods require a higher concurrency server, which is the bottleneck of most WebIM system. XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is based on XML (Extensible Markup Language) for real-time communication protocols, and has good flexibility and scalability, a relatively high degree of standardization. it is the more commonly used real-time applications'IM protocol. This article analyzes the main elements of XMPP protocol and some key technology of designing a cluster Web Instant Messaging model system. The design of the model System integrated server cluster technology, connection management and composite technology, BOSH (Bidirectional-streams Over Synchronous HTTP) technology. And we from many aspects to analysis and optimization the overall structure and improve the systems'efficiency. After Implement the base function such as Instant Messaging, user management, roster management, presence and so on, we constructed a efficiency, low latency Web Instant Messaging system. The system provides good service for the enterprise and effective e-commerce operations.
