With the rapid development of China’s market economy, market competition has become increasingly fierce. Printing companies not only have to face the diverse needs, but also have to face the challenges of rapid delivery and improve customer service quality. The companies want to maintain normal production activities, it must hold a certain amount of inventory,companies must pay more attention to control the inventory. Establishing a reasonable inventory levels to reduce inventory by study the actual production situation of enterprises, it is the main objective of this study.This paper based on the domestic and foreign research/current status of printing enterprises,studied the method of inventory control and related theories, analyzed and summarized their differences. Current methods of inventory control mainly included, ABC, MRP, JIT, ERP systems and management methods. These management systems are differently, it is important for enterprise to choice. The article established an inventory control model of the printing business based on the situation and characteristics of the production process. Inventory control can be controlled through three stages: raw materials, working process and finished products.In the raw material inventory control stage, analyzed the demand for raw materials procurement, be sure the total cost of this phase CT minimum objective, established [L, U] model by combining the method of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. In [L, U] model, by determining the value of L/U, then obtained the number of quantity Q. In the working process stage, average flow time and average WIP inventory as the performance indicators,established the models: FCFS/SOT/EDD/STR/LCFS/RANDOM, then choose the production order of optimal ordering scheme. To achieve the ultimate goal of the model by using MATLAB, then test and verify the model’s feasibility and practicality with actual production data examples. By the way of example verification, it shows that the model can change the existing inventory management status of printing enterprises, solve the problem of materials procurement plan and schedule production orders, achieve the goals of reducing inventory costs and controlling inventory management. For China’s printing enterprises in production management, it can help manager and provide theoretical guidance and good value to some extent.
