After 1990s, with the continuous development of science and technology, the speed of globalization is accelerating. After thirty years of the reform and opening up, China has become the world’s second largest economy, and continues participating in the process of globalization. However, since the world economic crisis in 2008, China has been suffered for unprecedented downward pressure. In the field of full market, layoffs and even close company have become a realistic problem for many enterprises have to face.In this paper, according to the human resource management theory, the writer takes the layoffs occurred in Emerson Insinkerator Nanjing factory as an example, and use the human resources management methods and modern psychology of the psychological contract theory, to analyze the whole process. The events that occurred during the period were introduced and analyzed.Initially, this paper makes a brief introduction of layoffs in Emerson Insinkerator of Nanjing factory, and then compares the two mainstream of the current typical layoffs Models (American and Japanese models), and then analyzes the process of the general layoffs, and comments the case of Emerson’s Nanjing factory. Meanwhile, the writer introduced some cases of layoffs of big firms. After all, the writer makes a summary of the understanding of the problem.
