With the development of globalization and economic integration of China into the world, MNCshave marched into Chinese market and played an important role in China's economy. As a result,the study on behavior of MNCs has been on the rise. Recently, it is noted that prestigious MNCslike P&G, Unilever, Nestle, Toshiba, KFC and McDonald's have fallen into traps of frequentoccurring crises one after another;their crisis management (CM) behavior, however, reflects theirignorance and maladjusted adaptation to Chinese culture. Exploring into their CM behavior andrevealing cultural factor by cross-cultural theories is conducive to the understanding andimprovement of MNC business behavior in Chinese context.In this thesis, the author intends to inquire into MNCs' CM behavior in China and finds influencesof acculturation strategies adopted by them on behavior. To be specific, through examining CMcases,find out embodiments of acculturation strategies in behaviors and see how they haveinfluenced the results of behavior. According to two directions of acculturation strategies, that isnostalgic acculturation strategies and adapted acculturation strategies, two case analysis modelsare established. Under each model, expected CM behavior and results are supposed in 5 majorrelations CM has to deal with, and inside each relation, cases will be analyzed in their relevance toone of 4 cultural dimensions. In analysis of cases, expected CM behavior are compared with realCM practices, thus reveal the direction of acculturation strategies adopted by MNCs in cases,proving the general hypothesis in the first place. From examining results of the influencedCM with either of nostalgic acculturation strategies or adapted acculturation strategies, specificinfluences of acculturation strategies on CM results can also be testified.Besides the method of case study, a questionnaire survey on acculturation tendency of foreignersin China is conducted among foreign business people and friends, further testifying, quantifyingand adjusting conclusions of cases study and general hypotheses.
