Since 1990's, the global insurance industry has been undergoing a hot wave of merge and acquisition (M&A). Especially in recent years, the range and scale involved in the wave of M&A becomes wider and larger, resulting in the appearance of giant insurance companies with diversification and almightiness. The wave of M&A not only changes the world insurance industry in the structure of operation and distribution, but also has a significant impact on the developing of insurance industry.In the face of the fierce international competition and the entry into WTO, Chinese national insurance companies, inferior to foreign insurance companies in capital, experience, management and technology, have to be adjusted to the wave of M&A and strengthen themselves by the means of M&A, which is the most important of exterior transaction strategies to realize capital outspread. However, it needs time and tactics. From this point, the dissertation is trying to carry out some helpful study, with the hope of making some suggestions in terms of how to promote M&A in domestic insurance industry.This dissertation is composed of the preface and four chapters.The preface simply demonstrates the wave of M&A in global insurance industry with figures and tables. Then it illustrates the significance of this dissertation's study and the main research methods adopted in the dissertation. At last, this part gives the main contributions of this dissertation, if any.Chapter One: Theories on M&A between insurance companies and analyses of them, including three sections. Beginning from correlative concepts in M&A in insurance industry, this chapter discusses the types, the reasons of the rise of M&A between insurance companies and theories about it.
